Team 17 cuts ties with publishers, to become digital exclusive publisher

Team 17 has been around for a long time, and has produced some amazingly fun games. The transition to 3D wasn’t as kind to them as I would have hoped, but since then they’ve bounced back in a spectacular manner, with their new-found digital focus seemingly proving extremely profitable for them.
Now, the UK studio is set to return to its publishing roots by increasing the number of downladable games it puts out to at least 15 games in 2010 alone.
“Digital distribution has allowed easy and direct access to the game for millions of customers at a time when it has become difficult to get attention at retail,” co-founder Martyn Brown told MCV.
“We have no ambitions to return to retail publishing.”
This news comes with a restructuring of Team 17’s internal management, and the announcement that Team 17 will be working with indie devs to bring their IP to consoles and mobile devices, PSN included. None of these projects have been announced yet, but as soon as they are, we’ll be the first to tell you.
