We gave you guys the sneak peek on Konami’s latest Yu-Gi-Oh! video game, and now the company has revealed the date when PlayStation gamers can channel their heart of the cards. Despite an initial vague “PlayStation Network” announcement, it looks like Yu-Gi-Oh! Millenium Duels is only set for PlayStation 3. Europeans get a head start on the game as it launches on April 23rd in the continent for £9.99/€7,99. North, and Latin American gamers will have to wait until April 29th to spend $9.99 on Millennium Duels.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Millennium Duels features over 6000 cards, which is the most in any Yu-Gi-Oh! video game to date. It’s also compatible with all of the downloadable card packs purchased for Yu-Gi-Oh! Decade Duels Plus. But unlike Decade Duels, it appears Millennium Duels has a decent variety of opponents in the single player competition. The game has players enter a Virtual Dueling System, an advanced program wherein they battle against simulated Duelists from the animated TV shows. While protagonists like Yugi, Jaden, Yusei, and Yuma are a given, there’s a total of 80 characters drawn from the four series. The fanservice doesn’t stop there either, as the game will allow players to unlock avatars from the animated series and take them online to battle other players in versus matches. Now that we’re talking about multiplayer, the game’s online modes include Rank Match against Yu-Gi-Oh! fans of the same rank and ability; Quick Match to jump into the action and compete against anyone; and Custom Matches against friends where the rules of play can be adapted to taste. The game also supports four-player tag duels, complete with text and voice chat ability.

55-card Decks and 24-card Packs will also be available as add-on content for $2.99 and $1.99 each, respectively.

The amount of paid DLC card packs makes me a bit apprehensive towards buying the game. To me it indicates that Millennium Duels will be similar to Decade Duels in that unless you’re willing to spend more money, you’ll be in for a grind to get good cards. I guess I’ll just have to hold out hope for an eventual Tag Force followup on Vita …
