PlanetSide 2 Launching on PS4 This Month

I was so tempted to title this post “PS2 PS4 6/23”, but I had a feeling it wouldn’t get picked up by the Googles if I had. In any case, we’ll finally see the long-awaited (for me, at least) release of PlanetSide 2 come June 23rd.

If you haven’t heard of PlanetSide, it was essentially the industry’s first MMOFPS (Massively Multiplayer Online First-Person Shooter), releasing on PC sometime when I was still in high school. I remember beta testing the original game and being hyped about PS2 since it was released in 2012. I haven’t had a computer that can handle it since then, plus I’m partial to console gaming, so I figured I’d hold out for the PS4 version. I can finally check this massive FPS game out.

The game is so free-to-play (how free-to-play is it?) that it doesn’t even require a PS+ account to play online. That’s a first for the system, if memory serves me correctly. The PS4 version will include an exclusive map, Koltyr, and will receive consistent updates, holiday events, marketplace items, etc.
