Yacht Club Games delivered the excellent retro-inspired Shovel Knight last year on PC and Nintendo platforms, with a PlayStation debut set for next month. That’s not stopping the team from revealing one of the game’s original Kickstarter stretch goals: a playable boss knight. That’s right, the villainous alchemist Plague Knight gets his own expansion in Plague of Shadows. Seeking the ingredients for the Ultimate Potion, Plague Knight must extract them from his former allies, the villainous knights of the Order of No Quarter.
Plague of Shadows offers up new areas to explore, bosses to fight, objectives, enemies and feats. Yacht Club are even switching up gameplay systems through the addition of explosives, bomb jumps, and alchemy. A crafting system builds on the latter by allowing you to create equipment and power-ups with loot.
Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows is due out Q2 2015. It’ll be playable this weekend at PAX East in Boston. If you’re in the area, you can check the update out at booth 6224.
The original Shovel Knight will launch on PS4, PS Vita and PS3 on April 21st as part of the Spring Fever 2015 campaign. The game will support both Cross-Buy and Cross-Save as well as PS Vita’s Back touch and PS4’s light bar. The base price for the game is $14.99, which will include Plague of Shadows when it’s available at no extra cost. Exclusive to PlayStation platforms is the addition of God of War’s Kratos.
