Luc Bernard, developer of the currently in-development Reaper on PS Vita, took to the PlayStation Blog today to announce another game for Sony’s latest handheld. Desert Ashes is a new free-to-play game in the style of Advanced Wars or Bernard’s earlier Mecho Wars. The turn-based strategy game features 3 single player campaigns, online PvP multiplayer and local PvP multiplayer on PlayStation TV. The online multiplayer supports asynchronous gameplay, which allows users to set opponent response time limits to 5 minutes, 20 minutes, 8 hours, and 24 hours. This enables matches to be played out on your own schedule.
Asynchronous gameplay isn’t the only time-sensitive mechanic in Desert Ashes. Every turn in the game pushes the clock up an hour. Bernard cites the cool that comes with the night as an example of this. “Because of the low temperature all the water will start to freeze and that will entirely change the battlefield.”
The game also features a perk system. For example, the Fort Toughness perk will add 20% DEF to all allied units at a structure, the Vampire perk will convert 20% attack damage to HP between 10 PM and 5AM.
Desert Ashes is set to launch sometime this fall on PS Vita. Bernard wants feedback from the community, and suggests players send ideas for level designs, ideas, and skins for the army.
