Starting tomorrow all PS4 owners in the US and Canada will have access to the PlayStation Now open beta. Featuring over 100 PlayStation 3 titles, users will be able to rent games for as low as 4-hours or as long as 90-days. The beta will be accessible through the PlayStation Store with a speed test to ensure a solid experience as a 5-12Mbps connection is recommended. PlayStation Now games will be able to use network features like trophies, friend lists and leaderboards. There’s support for online multiplayer with users on disc and downloadable versions of the game as well. Lastly, PlayStation Now titles support cloud saves.
Depending on the duration selected, rentals can cost anywhere between $2 and $20. Some games include downloadable content which will be marked in the description.
The current PlayStation Now beta only supports renting games on an individual basis but Sony’s Jack Buser says the company is working on a subscription based alternative as well.
While this beta is aimed squarely at PlayStation 4 owners, Sony has promised that PS3, PS Vita, PlayStation TV and select Bravia TVs will get to experience the streaming service soon. The company originally claimed that PS2 and PSone games would be offered on the service as well, but according to an interview with Kotaku the focus right now is on PS3 titles.
