Renegade Kid, the team behind Nintendo DS survival horror games like Dementium: The Ward, and its sequel as well as last year’s Mutant Mudds Deluxe on PS3, and Vita, are looking to return to horror with Cult County. Originally announced for the Nintendo 3DS, Cult County’s ambitions quickly outgrew its platform’s capabilities, so Renegade Kid decided to launch a Kickstarter to bring their vision to life. The campaign’s goal is $580k, which includes a release on PS3, PS4, and PS Vita, alongside some other non-PlayStation platforms like PC, Xbox One, and Wii U.
Renegade Kid describes Cult County as a first-person cross between The Walking Dead, and Silent Hill 2. The game’s story sees players take on the role of Gavin Mellick, whose mother has fallen deathly ill. Unable to reach his sister by phone, Gavin finds himself searching for her in Texas. When he arrives, he hears rumors that a cult has moved into the small town. Unable to shake the suspicion of being watched, Gavin begins to question if the strange faces he sees around town are the works of his imagination, or something more sinister.
Cult County will be released in an episodic format, with the first of five scheduled to launch in May of 2015. Supporting the Kickstarter will entitle backers access to all episodes.
