Sony’s revealed the date gamers can update their PS4 to the highly anticipated 1.70 firmware. This firmware update will coincide with a special 3.15 update for PS Vita TV users, which will finally enable PS4 Remote Play on the device. Sony Computer Entertainment Japan has announced that both will go live on April 30th. While that announcement is only for Japan, firmware updates usually hit the same day globally.
PS4 version 1.70 adds the ability to stream in high quality, archive stream content, a new video editing suite called SHAREFactory, preload games, and it removes the HDCP DRM. For a full list of changes, check out this post. SCEJ demonstrated the update with famous NicoNico personality Dogma Kazami. This update also allows users to stream via NicoNico.
UPDATE: SCEE has confirmed that the update will launch on April 30th in European regions. At this point, I’d say it’s a certainty that it launches on the same day in North America.
UPDATE #2 SCEA has confirmed that North American regions will also receive the update on Wednesday.
