D-Pad Studio announced their plans to bring Savant Ascent, a rhythm action game, to the PlayStation 4. The project came to be through a collaboration between D-Pad, and electronic musician, Savant. The two are friends, and decided to combine Savant’s music with the D-Pad’s visuals. Ascent’s main character design actually comes from D-Pad director, Simon S. Andersen’s work on Savant’s fifth album art. The end product hopes to be a beautiful mix of visuals and sound.
Savant Ascent takes a different approach to rhythm games. Rather than having a notes list that players must hit in sequence to the track playing, the game takes a more subtle approach. Jo-Remi Madsen from D-Pad describes it as wanting to “let the game live through the music — like enemies dancing to the beat, menu elements shaking on bass drops — and let Savant seem like this would be the kind of music he’d listen to as he set out on a robot-demolishing rampage”.
The team at D-Pad would like to support the game by adding elements from future albums, alongside additional soundtracks, possible levels tailored to the album’s design, new modes, abilities, and secrets.
Savant Ascent launched last year on PC, and mobile platforms. There’s been no word on a release date or price for the PS4 version.
