Skullgirls, a 2D fighting game released in the spring of 2012 quickly became a favorite due to its universe, and fighting mechanics. This was evident when developer Lab Zero asked fans to support more characters via an Indiegogo campaign. Their goal was only one hundred and fifty thousand dollars, but received over eight hundred thousand via crowdfunding. Things have recently taken a turn for the worste, as due to a dispute between publishers Konami and Autumn Games, Skullgirls will be removed from console storefronts on December 31st. But as anyone who has followed this game’s development knows, you can’t keep it down for long.
Skullgirls Encore brings the game back to PS3 via Autumn in conjunction with MarvelousAQL. Those who have purchased the original release will be entitled to this version of the game at no additional cost. As this is a new release compatibility with existing DLC will be broken. To make amends to this the character color DLC bundle will be free to all users for a limited time. Additionally, the game will have a new leaderboard and set of trophies to collect. Fans can also expect to see the introduction of the DLC character Squigly, who will be free to download for three months. Lab Zero hopes to have the game up and running again sometime next month in North America. Europe, and Japan may lag behind but those involved are trying to minimize the potential downtime.
If you’re interested in reading the full story about the dispute I suggest you check the summary at Lab Zero’s blog, which is linked below.
