PSNStores Weekly Roundup: February 11th – 17th 2013

For those who took advantage of the First Edition bundle, this past Friday marked the one year anniversary of the launch of the PlayStation Vita in North America . While there is no debate that there were times of drought with new releases, I always managed to find something to play between the Vita and PSM releases or going back and enjoying old PSP and PS1 classics. Looking at the games I played over the last year it’s no real surprise to me that it was the system I spent the most time with. This coming Wednesday is sure to be an exciting one for PlayStation fans as Sony is set to announce something big and as most people have assumed (and Sony has majorly hinted at) it will be the PlayStation 4. After the past while of hearing rumor after rumor it will finally be nice to hear about the future of PlayStation directly from Sony. What features are you hoping the PS4 will have?
It seems Team17 isn’t finished with bringing its Amiga classics to a new audience with the release of Alien Breed this past week as they have announced that they will be giving the HD treatment to their 1993 game Superfrog. Unfortunately they didn’t say much about what we will see in Superfrog HD besides all new graphics, but we will certainly keep you updated when we hear more. It seems Foosball 2012 will have some competition on PSN as developer Quirkat will be releasing their take on the sport with Pro Foosball. Get your Move controllers ready for this Wednesday when the game will be hitting the EU store. For you Star Wars and Pinball fans out there who have been anxiously waiting to play Star Wars Pinball your going to have to hold off a little while longer yet, but Zen has released a new video showing off The Empire Strikes Back table. If you weren’t already excited for these Star Wars themed tables, you definitely will be after you watch the trailer.
Chris managed to ask a few questions to Lorraine Star of Yippee Entertainment about their PSM game Chimpact which released in this weeks PSM update, so give it a read to hear more about flinging everyone’s favorite type of primate to collect bananas and gems. Another week, another developer jumping on the ever increasing bandwagon of PSM developers. This time Misfits Attic have announced that they will be bringing their hit PC puzzle game A Virus Named TOM to the platform this year with new levels and features. The free PSM game promotion is nearing the end with only one more game becoming free with this weeks update, so make sure you take full advantage of whats left of the promotion and grab Beats Trellis before Tuesday’s update.
Rocketbirds: Hardboiled Chicken made its debut on the Vita in this weeks PSN Store update and Ben had the chance to write about his time overthrowing the penguin regime in his review. It is also looking like we will have more Rocketbirds in our life in the future as Ratloop included a nice teaser for Rocketbirds Two in the extras menu of the Vita release of Hardboiled. Can’t wait to take on those transdimensional space owl’s.
If you have been looking forward to the release of Guacamelee (and if not, whats wrong with you?) then you might want to give the newest episode of the PSNStores Podcast a listen as Chris had a chance to pick the brain of a couple of the guys from Drinkbox about their luchador themed metroidvania title coming to PSN and Vita. If you live in the Europe and have money burning a hole in your PSN wallet you might want to check out the current New PlayStation Store sale that is currently going on. You can see the details about that sale, and a bunch more, in this weeks Global Deals Circular. Also make sure you check back here later on tonight at 5:00pm JST (that would be midnight PST) as SCEJ president Hiroshi Kawano will be hosting an online Vita presentation. No word yet on what is being presented but we will keep you updated as information becomes available. Lets just all hope its more interesting news then last time.
