PSNStores Weekly Roundup: January 7th – January 13th 2013

With everything finally settling down from the holidays and Game of the Year time over I had the chance to play some of the Vita games I picked up on the Holiday sale including Dokuro, Escape Plan, and Rayman Origins. While these games were a lot of fun (especially Rayman origins) they couldn’t keep me away from Persona 4 for too long. I also managed to play through Black Knight Sword, which is definitely one I would put on the odd list. You can look forward to the review this week.
This past Tuesday (or Wednesday depending on your location) seen the return of PSM updates with Haunt the House: Terrortown and Life of Pixel releasing. We got an interview with Rich from Super Icon to tell us all about Life of Pixel and you can check out this weeks Quick Play to hear Chris’s thoughts on these two games. With Panic! and Cosmic Clean Up already released we got word on the next PSM title being published by Riptstone. Gun Commando is an 8-bit first person savhooter that also blends in elements of shmup’s like R-type, which is certainly sounding like an interesting addition to the growing PSM line up. In a first since launch of PlayStation Mobile a game is getting ported over to PSN. Alien Breed, which launched on PSM back in November, will be getting a PS3/Vita version that will add trophies, leaderboards, and cross play mutliplayer which is sure to excite fans. No release date or price has been announced yet (lets hope its #YOPO), but once we get the details we will let you know.
When FuturLab announced their deal with Sony to make Vita games back in December they also put a countdown up on a a teaser site. That countdown expired on Friday and with it Velocity Ultra was announced. James Marsden from FuturLab was once again nice enough to take a few minutes of his time to answer some of our questions about this updated version of one of our favorite games of 2012 and if you have any ideas on what they should do for the squeal make sure to head here and let them know. You might just win a copy of Velocity Ultra in the process.
Another batch of PS2 classics will be hitting the store this Tuesday that you might enjoy more then the…ah.. “classic” Dora the Explorer games that we seen this week. You will be able to purchase the first entry in the Disgaea series, Disgaea: Hour of Darkness, along with the survivor horror game Siren, which happens to be the first game that Nick worked on while he was at SCEA. We will also see Corpse Party: Book of Shadows, the sequel to the runner up for our PSP game of the year 2011 which got Curtis quite excited when he heard about it. To round off next weeks update we will finally see the release of one of our most anticipated aps for the Vita. That’s right Wake Up Club will finally be available in North America and I (strangely) cant wait to wake up Wednesday morning to it. Check out this weeks Sneak Peek for the rest of the details for Tuesday’s NA update.
After getting a view of all our individual favorite games of 2012 you finally got to see the PSNStores Game of The Year Awards on Monday past. Make sure to check them out to see if ours matched your favorites from 2012. With seven of us this year deliberating we unfortunately couldn’t give you a GOTY podcast, but you can have a listen to Episode 82 of the PSNStores podcast and hear some talk about Life of Pixel, Labyrinth Legends, and Knytt Underground.
