In the eighties, there was a Super Mario Bros clone known as The Great Giana Sisters. It was pulled by Nintendo but later resurrected on the Nintendo DS platform in 2009. Now, the new title, Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams, lands on PC October 23rd with an XBLA and PSN release in early 2013.
The game follows protagonist Giana, who is none too please to be stuck in a dream world of rainbows and happiness. Players control her as she runs amok throughout the brightly-lit stages. But, with the simple press of a button, Giana can jump into another dream world; one writhe with dirt, muck, and bones, creating a less-angered Giana. Both stages can be flip-flopped back-and-forth to navigate the different zones. The game’s soundtrack, provided by Chris Hülsbeck and Machinae Supremacy, also weaves to-and-fro between classic chip tunes and metal.
Developer Black Forest Games recently held a Kickstarter campaign to get Twisted Dreams off the ground. Ending August 31st, the title reached its goal, and the game is now a reality.
