Today, Sony Online Entertainment announced PAYDAY: The Heist, a squad-based FPS that puts you in the shoes of Robert De Niro. If you don’t feel like clicking the link and getting the joke, what I’m saying is you’re a big-time criminal on the hunt for the next big score. Teamwork and a quick trigger finger are pivotal skills in pulling off these death-defying heists.
It’s an episodic cooperative shooter packed with cocky attitude and epic Hollywood-inspired action. There are six heists in all, including a downtown bank vault robbery, managing hostages in an armored car hijacking, and even a midnight infiltration of a top-secret, high-security facility. The heists feature dynamic environments, shifting entry points, and adaptive enemy tactics, which means that no scenario will every play out the same way twice… ever. There’s a character progression tree that allows you to spec into either an assault, sharpshooter, or support class. OVERKILL Software has also promised a bunch of DLC, so the game will have some lasting appeal.
It’s at E3, so expect some impressions from Chris in the coming weeks.
