Surprise Release: Worms 2: Armageddon

In checking out the press stories that have released so far today, I noticed something that seemed a bit out of place: “Worms 2: Armageddon launches in the U.S. today, 14th September 2010.” Today? I scrolled over the clock to check the date. Yep, it’s September 14th, all right, and I’m pretty sure it’s still 2010.
Anyways, there are a bunch of assets for the game, including a Rube Goldberg-inspired trailer and a boat load of screens.
A bunch of funny movie-voice references:
The game will include a handful of pretty neat features, including full 1080p HD support. A ton of customization options will be available, including some fun Sony endorsed hats:
There’s online and offline multiplayer that features up to four players. Game modes include beginner, intermediate, pro, races, forts, and crazy crates. Leaderboard support is in full effect, along with 27 trophies to collect.
I didn’t pick up the first PSN Worms, but I do remember playing Worms on my Sega Saturn for days on end. Wasn’t there support for up 16 players, or something? I’m curious as to how and why these downloadable titles only support 4 players.
The game looks good, regardless, and may be (maaaaaybe) worth checking out for the price of $14.99.
