Developer: Cowboy Rodeo
Release Date: November 24th, 2009
Price: $6.99
Demo: No
Players: 1-8 (Pass and Play)

What I liked:

  • The tables are more complex.
  • Music sounds great. Same as the original.
  • Good pinball physics.
  • Up to 8 players can play using 1 PSP.

What I disliked:

  • You have to go into Portrait mode on the menu to view High Scores.
  • The front-end menu is not as nice as in Pinball Dreams.
  • Can’t find a good way to hold the PSP in Portrait mode.
  • No way to access menu from the game, you have to back out to the main menu.

Pinball Fantasies was the first of the two Pinball game put out on minis by Cowboy Rodeo. For some reason I couldn’t get into this one as much as I did Dreams. It might just be my preference of tables that are a little simpler, but I still liked the variety that this title brings. You won’t be losing anything that was in Dreams feature wise, but it also suffers from the same problems.

The game still has the same great chiptune music and simple gameplay. The front-end looks a little less appealing, but be sure to flip the discs if you are a fan of the music. The game features four different tables from the ones in Dreams, all with many more ramps and bonuses. Your scores will definitely rack up higher on these tables. I really wish I didn’t have to put the front end menu in Portrait mode to view the high-scores though.

If I had to choose one of these pinball games, it would definitely be Dreams. The game is a tad easier to play and I liked the tables more. But if you have the cash, I don’t see a reason why you wouldn’t enjoy both. Each offers a slightly different pinball experience. And If you are a fan of old-school Amiga games, you definitely shouldn’t pass on this one.
